Democracy is about having more than one choice so we have two. Actually we have two dominants but there are more than two parties plus independent candidates. So your question is what?

hey thats what George Washington asked. Good question. We have more than two parties. The republican party was a third party at one time. We are not a democracy, we are a republic. We elect represenatives to make laws. In a free society people will have differant opinions. In countries that do not have freedom of speech there is only one party. So the process might seem divided it is not.
There was a time before 24 hour news and talk radio that Americans had differant opinions but were not told to hate each other. The right wing nuts have taken over the republican party and the left wing thought police have taken over the democratic party. The only thing a good american can do is create a party that represents the american people. I dont see one. The libertarians are just as nuts and if a starving baby was put on there front porch they would kick it off.
It will get better and we will see it happen when the people are sick and tired of being manipulated.

Idiots can call it what they like but Congress & an illegitimate World Corporate Fascist Ruling Class, are in control & rule in the USA and need to be brought down by our own legal citizens but apparently we are inept at organizing too do such! I see the same thing world wide whatever you call the political enviroment. When you break it all down its class warfare Haves VS the have nots everywhere in which the have nots out number the haves. Get smart people come together for one common goal rule & control of Money/Power/Wealth for the majority or stay a have not until you perish!

Nice to see theres a questioning mind in america. Dont question to loud or theyll put you in jail.
Democracy is a euphemism for "legitimised dictatorship".
In democracy everyone has a voice, trouble is when everyone speaks no one gets heard. The only way to have your voice heard is to shout. Constantly. Only nutters and extremists are prepared to do this which is why your country is ruled by greedy arrogant paranoid psychotics.

Democracy has nothing to do with how many political parties there are, it's our right to be able to vote for whomever we want to no matter what party they represent.

The two large political parties have rigged the system in favor of themselves at the expense of the voters. Unfortunately, we'd need a change in a lot of laws (like getting rid of the primary elections at taxpayers' expense) and the consitution (like changing how congress is elected) plus a change in attitudes (like blue state verses red state) to get rid of our entrenched mess.

Because there are lots of good people in the world, and there are also Democrats. Some people say it is best to let each have a voice, but I will never understand why.

Would you rather only have one political party, with only one candidate to choose?

We are in a "Representative Republic"
That means we elect other people to REPRESENT us....
And if we didn't have that we would still be divided by
conservative voters VS Liberal voters.
