Just become involved in a lot of clubs, events or community projects and be a part of the group. Be a team player and don't try to push yourself on anyone or be the center of attention. Always have a nice word to say about everyone. They remember people who give them compliments, but don't overdue it.

By being more social. Going out and being friendly with everyone and I mean everyone. Learning how to be a good conversationalist. And of course knowing how to read people and social situations.
