How to take out Tatsumaru's Sword in Tenchu 2?

I can't use Tatsumaru's Sword (Izayoi) is there some specific button take it out of his sheath and use it as a weapon instead of melee (the computer can do it when you fight him the Ninja Village Under Attack Mission)

you can only use it as a part of a button combination by pressing left or right and then attack.
