Congratulations for wanting to quit. That desire is what will make the difference between success and failure. Consult your county health department. They will have some sort of program to stop smoking. It is a comprehensive plan that will look at what hasn't worked so that they don't repeat that. They will look at why you get sick when you quit and how to deal with that.
If the county doesn't have something like that, talk to a doctor. There are options available there as well. Zyban, Nicotine patches and gum may work if put into a program of activity modification.

Best wishes on carrying out your desires to quit.

I'm a former smoker. I've stopped and started probably 20 times over my life. I've stopped now, and I hope it sticks. Here are some things I learned that I really hope help you.
-it's damn hard to stop smoking
-your not a bad person if you smoke
-to stop smoking is like losing a friend or a fun hobby (seriously)
- I'm most likely to say "screw it, I'm smoking!" after I've had a bad day, I'm drunk, or out with my friends who smoke as well
-I realized that I didn't want to be 45, have children who depended on me, and come down with cancer and die, leaving them alone just because I didn't have the balls to quit smoking

Good luck - and remember, if you start smoking again after quitting for a month, don't give up cause that month STILL COUNTS as you being a non-smoker - and it's just another step leading up to the day you will quit for good!

I've never heard of this device and it sounds somewhat alarming!! I quit a 26 year habit 7 weeks ago with the aid of a smoking cessation group and the incredible new drug Champex (Chantix in the USA). Its the first drug designed purely to stop smoking and works by balancing out your dopamine levels to stop you craving the nicotine high, and by blocking the nicotine receptors so you derive absolutely no pleasure from the cigarette. I am astounded at the effect it has had. In previous attempts I have been unable to be around smokers as I get so jealous and upset. Now, my husband can sit and smoke in front of me and I just don't care. If he has a serious habit and no medical condition that precludes taking this drug, I recommend it highly.

You have to have the willpower to stop, which you've already proven you have since you're trying really hard. This is what I've tried to get my mom to try, and everyone I've talked to has agreed it's a good way to stop.

Take a notebook (or just several pieces of paper) and every time you smoke a cigarette put down a tally. At the end of the day add them up.
Make sure every day you smoke the same amount of cigarettes.

After three days go by cut yourself down by one or two cigarettes (you're preference, if you want to quit faster I suggest two. But if you don't want to get buzzed out by lack of nicotine too fast then go one at a time).

Like this.

Smoke: 25 cigarette's a day
keep smoking it until the 3rd day
Smoke: 24 or 23 cigarette's a day.

By the time you get down to none not only will you be unaddicted to it as much as you were, but it'll be easier to stop as well. I hope this helps :)

Have you determined your pattern of smoking? i.e. in the morning with your first cup of coffee? In the car going to work? Do you smoke when you are bored? Hungry? Is it social for you, i.e. do you go outside at work to smoke so you can chat with your colleagues? Make a diary of the times you smoke to determine if there is a pattern of habitual vs. physical needs to smoke. Also, start going to the gym and use a treadmill or other machine. Start gaging your progress. The more you begin to do at the gym, the less you'll want to have a ciggie to mar your progress. What worked best for me is that I found a boyfriend who wanted to kiss me all the time and I didn't want to offend him by tasting like an ashtray.

My dad used to smoke and I don't mean occausily, proberly 30 or more a day. The doctor kept telling him to quit. he also went to the resturant & drank coffee several times a day.
One day he came home from his coffee routine & took his b.p. (he very seldom took it, and never did that after any of his "coffe breaks" , it wasn't really high, but high for him, he didn't feel right. He went to the doctor, told he had prostate. He was told to loose weight, cut down on caffiene & most importly quit smoking. He felt funny for awhile without his cigs. but he found the secret to quitting smoking ,,,,, "You have to WANT to quit." Leave those patches, gums, ect. alone. If you really want to quit you can. Again... You have to WANT to quit smoking, if you don't really want to quit, then why try ?
