Zoloft and other antidepressant drugs are not things you should just stop cold turkey her OB should have told her this - pregnant or not if you stop cold turkey you get all your symptoms back whether they be depression or anxiety (or both) worse than the symptoms were to begin with it can also give you physical symtoms - if the OG or GP thinks she should still be taking something they would advise her on how she should go about it - just stopping is not a good idea. Get her back to the Dr ASAP.

You better check with the doctor. Any drug can affect pregnancy which is why most drugs are not recommended during that time. However it isn't always because a drug is known to be harmful, but rather that it hasn't been adequately tested to insure it is safe.

Pregnancy comes with some mightly mood swings for almost all women, and stopping the zoloft cold turkey could be devasting even in a non-pregnant woman so the answer to this question MUST come from her doctor.

Realistically this sounds like a very, very bad time for her to consider going through with this pregnancy. She's already being treated for depression, so she is not well enough to be a stable mom. New babies are hard and stressful and if she's already depressed, it is likely it will get worse after birth. Do you remember the woman in Houston that drowned all 5 of her kids? That's what post-partum depression can do. It is truly dangerous.

Add to that, the two of you aren't even in a stable marriage, which is an added stress. You also don't state your ages, but I'm guessing you're pretty young. Are your finances stable enough to afford to even have a child? Kids are really, really expensive and costs can easily exceed $10K the first year.

Daycare for newborns can run $200 a week or more (depending on where you are) and unless you are earning enough to fully support a stay at home mom, she's going to need to work. Working with small kids is hard (though clearly a lot of us do it)

So...I am suggesting that you DO talk to her doctor about the medications, and probably a therapist to get to the root of her issues.

I am also suggesting that urging her to remain pregnant may constitute cruel and unusual punishment for her, and for the baby. Kids deserve parents who are emotionally healthy and living stable enough lives to provide well for them. Otherwise you compromise its odds at living a healthy and happy life.

Don't mess with drugs while pregnant!!!!! Not if you want a healthy baby. She needs to talk with her therapist and her ob doctor. She may need to see the therapist at least once a week while pregnant. Also she needs to decide now if she wants to breast feed, as a lot of these drugs can be passed along in the breast milk. Raging hormones while pregnant are difficult to deal with if everything else is normal.... she really has tough decisions to make. Please be patient and understanding with her. Will it help if the ob hospitalizes her for short periods of rest? Try not to take anything personal, and get/give lots of hugs.

ideally she should stop it if possible but, in cases where her mental health is greatly at risk it's thought to be better 4 her to keep taking it even thou there is a risk to her baby. it's a case of the good out weighting the bad no one is saying it's safe but it may be safer for the baby to have a mom not suicidal or homicidal then to let her go off. I took sizure meds that were know to not be good 4 the baby but my doctor said having a sizure was worse 4 the baby. Her doc might swith it call them and ask what to do.

Any type of drug like it truly is not any longer sturdy for the toddler. If she will be in a position to get with the help of with out utilising it she might want to. no one is truly particular what the unintended outcomes of taking those drugs are, yet i know that if a pregnant female is on a more suitable psychiatic drug than Zoloft they recommend no longer taking it even as pregnant. i might want to assume this will also keep on with for your concern.

First of all, you dumbass, you shouldn't have knocked her up knowing that she's on medication for a mental disorder. She needs to take some responsibility too. Both of you ought to have your heads examined. The only thing you can do now is try cognitive therapy and hope she can master it before long. See a psychologist who specializes in it and/or get this book:

If she diligently applies the techniques in this book, she can work her way (taper) off the drugs. Hope the baby turns out okay.

The mood swings might be related to her pregnancy. After she has the baby, reccommend that she doesn't breast feed and then she can take it.

I don't recommend it because I'm not a doctor but i am pregnant and I don't think that you should take any medicine while pregnant especially in your first trimester, my advise is to speak to your doctor before taking any medicine
