I have heard that anne was in an assylum somewhere at the time

Asylum meant a different thing in those days and yes Annie Sullivan spent a few years in an asylum (which was where they stuck the blind a lot as they didn't want to deal with them) - but she was smart, a good student and went to school, etc. and grew up to tutor Helen Keller whom she met when Helen was about 7, at Helens family home. They ended up being dear friends until Annie's death.

Anne Sullivan was hired by Helen Keller's parents to teach her how to speak using sign language and how to read using the Braille system. I really am not sure if she was in an assylum at that time but she was raised in an orphanage and sometimes the orphanages were called "assylums"

Tuscumbia, Alabama, which is tucked n the Northwest corner of the state. Annie Sullivan came from Boston specifcally to be Helen Keller's tutor.

Anne was hired to be the "nanny" for Helen. They met at the Keller home.

Did they meet? I am not very sure. Maybe you can check helen keller charity fund site. Ho sorry, ya she was hire as her personal tutor.
