I totally agree with you...
Peer pressure doesn't end in high school!
The work place "approach for donations" can be never ending!
I personally think the worst is having parents who walk around with their children’s school drive stuff.. Moms & Dads looking to get co-workers to buy/order chocolates, wrapping paper, cookies....It seems never ending! And, I'm a parent...
The sad thing is that schools see very little of that money.
The corporations are getting rich off the backs of little kids &
parents.
Every time our children came home with form to sell "stuff", we return the form with a "cash" donation for the school.

At our work, we recently had a girl get into a bad car accident and we collected money to buy her flowers. The request was sent out through our IM system. It's better that way I think because if someone doesn't want to give then they don't feel so bad as if someone came around and asked for it and you have to tell them no.
And the same goes for when I collect donations for the troops around the holidays. I send out an IM, put a box in the kitchen and watch it fill up. No shame if they can't afford it.

If I don't think it is right for me to give donations (especially knowing where the money will be going to) I will say no. I hate the pressure of giving when I know I can't afford it or I don't agree with the cause. But I won't give if my heart is telling me it is not wise to give, other times I will give. It all depends on the situation.

I would give within my means and if I cannot afford it , I would explain to that person and hope that he understands....further to that I am not interested in how people react to what they think of me if I do not give a donation...donations can come in various forms....giving your time is also considered a donation...it does not have to be a financial contribution......If I have to say 'no' I would add 'not today'...and if they still come after me day after day...I will still say the same thing until I am ready to contribute.....I will not allow myself to be pressured or intimidated by them.....

Alot of people have trouble saying no when put on the spot like that. My company doesn't allow it, any fundraisers have to go into the break room, no personal approaches or emails.

If it is a worthy cause, I will give and if I don't have the money at that time I will tell them so, and to come later. If it is something that I don't agree with, I politely just say no., and go on my way.

I would only give if I agree with the cause. If I have something to give I like to give.

Just be very clear that you have already selected and support your own charities, and wish them luck.

I think that's because most people are more worried about what other people think of them, than they are concerned about what GOD thinks of them (and their choices, etc).
