Size 8 in UK is size 6 in USA

Not the same response as some others here but this is my experience.

I am a UK size 10 and I find US size 6 fits me well. I'd say that if you're only a UK 8 then a US 4 would be better for you in general.

I just read an article about the sizing. If you are an 8 American size you'll need to get a size 10 in UK clothing. US size 10, UK size 12,etc...

Size 4.

It's two sizes smaller. It used to be only one size smaller, which is why some sites may still say it's a size 6. But as Americans tend to be getting larger in general, they use vanity sizing and now their size 6 is a 4 and has been for quite a while. HTH : )
