Not since the gang of four left in 1981 to form the SDP. There is however a personality clash, which was heightened when the UK went to war in Iraq and some members of the labour party disagreed.

Blair took the honorable decision at the time and has stood by ever since. Brown also supported and still supports the war, finding more money all of the time.

Lets now have calm and return to governance, ready for the rest of this term with Tony Blair and then from some time in the next 12 months with a new leader. Working hard to govern Britain in these challenging times is what will return Labour to power in 2009.

I don't think so. Ironically the ideological divide was at it greatest before they swept to power in 1997 (over things like clause 4). The vast majority of the more traditional labour supporters realise that the public will not vote for the old ideals.

Now it is simply a power struggle. Ideology is simply an excuse for bad behaviour by people who should know better.

Division, yes. But I am having trouble classifying it as ideological. From my viewpoint, it appears that people are mostly afraid of Blair's direction regarding the war. But there are other issues that are not so blindingly obvious - although not so coherent as to merit the term ideological.
