I had my appendix burst on me when I was 6 or 7 and I remember waking up after the operation with a four inch hole on my right side. It was open so I got to see what it looked like and it was purple.

I know that most of the infected appendix was removed so it was probably just the surrounding tissue that I was seeing. Either way it was pretty gross. I had to stay in the hospital for over a week. But I had bags and bags of toys when I went home. I was also very close to dying from waiting too long.

Make sure that if your child is complaining about a pain in his/her side and it doesn't go away after a couple of days and they start to turn pale -- take them to the doctor ASAP!!

You can say anything, he'll never see one to know that you lied. I'm pretty sure it's red. The infected one that's are removed in appendicitis are probably a sickly, sallow yellow. Ewww.

It's red...pretty much like all of your other internal organs...but if it is infected as well as inflamed it will have (sorry...I know...it's gross) yellow pus collection inside. Not a pretty sight either way!
