It usually happens early in the morning. I hate to say it, but it usually also happens after a night of drinking. I'll wake up and my right or left calf cramps up. I usually can shake it off but this morning it happened and now my heel on my left leg is numb. Does any one know what it could be. Been going on 2 yrs. No Insurance, cant really afford to go to doc.

I get them too, usually when I am dehydrated or am lacking potassium. I try to drink lots of water during the day and eat a banana at least twice a week. Doesn't it just stink to be woken up from a deep sleep with them piercing through your calf! And you know you should relax so they go away faster but it is so hard to relax when you get woken up like that. Hope they start to happen ledd frequently.

It sounds like an electrolyte imbalance due to dehydration (alcohol makes it worse as it dehydrates you). Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day, Gatorade or better yet Pediasure water or ice pops (normally given it to babies when they are ill to restore their electrolyte imbalance and take a good calcium tablet (Calcitrate is a good brand...avoid cheap brands are they are not readily absorbed). A good multivitamin with the regular recommended dose of Potassium would be good too, but my doctor cautioned against taking it as a supplement.

Could be caused from dehydration, but alot of cramps are caused from a lack of potassium. Try eating a banana and taking a good multivitamin
