I'm trying to understand what makes people curious. It seems that if you ask questions people are interested in who is asking, whereas if you answer questions there is little interest. What do others think?

actually i tend to look at the types of answers, and am then interested in looking at the person's other answers, if i think they are witty, clever or sincere and even some who are out to shock.

Now I notice U, An interesting Question Generate interest on the person asking, However and interesting answer talks more to the asker and those curious in that specific Question.

Asking questions is very self focussed.
ex. when I look for an answer, I am concerned for myself - for what I can receive. I really have no interest in the giver.

When I answer a question - I am looking to give away the things I've received - I answer because I can give. I have an interest in the asker.

For me it works both ways.

I have been in contact with several people from this site and it is because something they have said has sparked an interest. It is easier to pick out the questioners as they are more prominent though.

As an aside, the men manage to keep it up longer!

I think humans are just interested in stimulation - so giving a question and/or giving an answer both can cause that effect the answer to your question is both actual gain people's attention.

In my view, people tolerate you only to a limited extent when you keep on answering questions. You annoy them. But if you ask, and ask, people start showing interest and wonder how good or bad your next question will be. they remember you afterwards.

I think it is both ways. When you ask quetions you get noticed depending on how people view your question. On the other hand, if you answer questions, you still get noticed depending on how others see your answer.

I prefer to have a combination of both. That shows that you have a good understanding of issues.

psychology says asking quesitons...it indicates interest in knowing the other person..(be interested not interesting) I think that another important point is to be a good listener too because that sends the message that what the person has to say is important too.
