Nobody really knows, but there's plenty of speculation.

"After conception the developing embryo follows a female template. It's only after six to eight weeks that the effect of a gene on the Y chromosome kicks in for boy embryos. This gene stimulates the production and influence of hormones such as testosterone, which 'masculinise' the embryo by altering physical development to form male features.
Nipples, however, are formed before this masculinisation process takes place, and nothing that goes on later reverses this.
So the story that God made Eve from Adam's rib got it the wrong way round. Males are an adaptation of females and the nipples are just one piece of evidence for this."

Something along the lines of - all embryos begin life as a female until the X and Y chromosone determines the sex, but by then its too late baby boy got nipples. This happens very soon after conception.

all of us start out as females when we are first concieved. After a certain period of time(i think its 6 weeks or so im not sure) the effect of the y chromosome kicks in for boy embryos, and certain hormones such as testosterone are released which alters the phisical development of the embryo to form maculine features. Nipples were formed much earlier in the embryos development, and nothing goes on later in fetal development to reverse nipple formation

During the growth period the embryo doesn't know if it will be a boy or girl yet! You dont form your genitails until your 5th or 6th month i believe! So it makes sure you have the nipples ready if your to be a female so you can use them for later use like feeding your own child one day! If your a guy then you just have them!

You obviously don't know much about biology. Embryos all start life as female and later can change to male. The breasts are in place before the change but do not develop in males due to male sex hormones. Visit your local library or check out the internet.

Sexual dimorphism does not occur until rather late in the development of the fetus. Prior to the development of sexual characteristics, fetuses (pardon) are neither male nor female, but a little of both.
