Considering every musical trend that originates in the US begins with black people singing offensive lyrics.
In the early 20th C, jazz and blues began with black people singing lyrics that were often obscene or subversive. Now jazz and blues are played by orchestras world wide.
Rock music in the 50s kicked off when white performers such as Elvis copied black musical styles. Back then rock and roll was seen as degenerate and a threat to society. Now rock songs such as Lennon's "Imagine" are routinely played by orchestras. I know it's a scary thought, but could the same thing happen with rap? Black people singing offensive lyrics

Ebettis, I didn't say that black people are the only folk who sing offensive lyrics. my point was that all the major musical trends in the US haved began with black people singing songs that were not considered acceptable in polite society.
Come to think of it Gospel, also invented by blacks, could be an exception.

I don't know if straight up "rap" could be played by an orchestra...but there are certainly arrangement possibilities.

I'm a music teacher in an urban school, and I teach rap and hip-hop in my classroom. In order for music ed to be effective and meaningful, it should reach kids on their level and use what they know to then branch out into what they don't. I think that if you had national and state orchestras playing more music they recognized, they would be more motivated to stick around and listen to other genres. Also, a lot of "classical" music is sampled in rap and hip-hop music, so there's definitely a lot of crossovers happening.

Good question! I don't think it's necessarily "because" of the trend you stated, but you make an interesting point that's definitely worth considering!

Why is it a scary thought? Most rap music that is out today has been created by using a sample of a popular song from long ago. They can play the song without having to play the lyrics. I have heard a few musicians play this type of music and it is actually really cool.

PS. Lots of people sing songs with offensive lyrics...Black folks don't corner the market on it....

RAp gives many people headaches including me . It's not really singing but shoutting . It usually shouts out things that not everyone experiences . lol like my friend next to me says to write ....babies mommas...every girls you want to do ...and bling bling :) sorry the other music in the past had "many merits" to it !!!!!

But if it became more melodic it might have a good chance ....hmmm anyways Britney's husband FeDERLINE ....okay now listenning to him try to rap I think IT left EVERYONE's JAWS on the ground !!!!

I don't think so. Too many beeped out words and too fast for the orchestra to keep up with the beat.
