Is there something that will cut right through it that you can just use to wash the walls?

The best way to cut thru the nicotine stains is to use the cleaner "Simple Green" full strength on it. I paint for a living, and this is the method I use: spray simple green on and let it soak about 3 minutes...then wipe it clean with a wet sponge. Each section I do about 4ft square at a time,so the stains don't dry, then you gotta start over again. This is the easiest way of cleaning with the least amount of elbow grease. Also, try a product called "Kilz" it comes as a primer nowadays, don't have to add it to paint. It's never a good idea trying to paint over dirt buildup...painting is 95% preparation, and 5% actual applying of the paint.

For painted walls and ceilings, try a solution of 1 gallon of warm water, 1/2 cup plain ammonia, 1/4 cup white vinegar, and 1/4 cup washing soda (which can be found in the laundry additives area of supermarkets). Refresh this solution frequently while washing, and you won't need to rinse. Start at the bottom of a wall and work your way up. How you clean wallpaper will depend on the specific type of paper. Newer vinyl papers can be washed with water, but older papers may be more delicate.

TCP is a wall cleaner to prepare wall to paint. It will clean the smoke off your walls. If you do not want to paint you will have to rinse well. You can get this in the paint dept. at HomeDepot.
It is a lot of work. Wear gloves and old clothes.

Not really, because any chemical you use to remove the smoke will likely dmage the latex paint on the wall. I think you are going to have to break down and paint. I think it would be easer to paint rather than to clean anyway. You will need to reprimer the walls first if the smoke damage is too bad. Add a couple of drops (just a couple) of vanilla extract to the paint first and this will cover the smell.
Hope this helps.

Awesome Orange sprayed on walls and wiped off with wet clean sponge. Which should be done prior to repainting anyways so that the nicotine does not soak threw the fresh paint.

T.S.P(Tri-sodium Phosphate), HOT! water and gloved hands will normally do the trick however TSP is a deglosser so Semi-gloss paint will tend to lose some of it's gloss. lf your walls are painted with flat paint then nothing short of cleaning and re-painting will remove the nicotine staining.

I used to use bleach and dish soap. Not a lot but enough to clean without bleaching the walls white. Rinsing is important. Lots of rinsing. Good luck.

Give it a clean with a product called sugar soap it does wonders, cleans just about anything. That should do the trick.

I don't think there is, smoke damage is near impossible to remove. My in-laws had this trouble and ended up painting over it, now they don't allow smoking in the house for this reason.

Yes,T.S.P.---Trisodium phosphate will clean it right up.This can be purchased at any local hardware store,at a fraction of the cost of paying a professional painter to do the same thing.
