could somebody tell me if the whitish pimple like spots around nipple area can only occur when pregnant? I have had several come up over the last few days. i have had other symptoms of pregnancy but these are new. I cannot test for another week or so, and have read these only occur during the early stages of pregnancy, or if there is a hormone imbalance which i don't have.

Any help would be good. Thank you

Actually you are ALL wrong. They are called 'montgomery's tubercles, and are a almost definate sign of pregnancy. The only other thing they can mean is that you may have a hormone imbalance.
BTW I am pregnant and this was the first thing that gave it way, even before period started.

that is not a symptom for only pregnant women- I have them and have had 3 kids and know there is no way I am pregnant or ever will be again (thank goodness). I think that's just part of being a female.

good luck

changes in the nipple that occur during pregnancy are sensativity, darkening of the areola, nipple enlargement and breast tenderness all of which start in about the 3rd month. that doesnt sound like a sign of pregnancy to me, all pregnany women have a hormone imbalance its natural as your pregnancy progresses your hormones raise thus the effects of pregnancy mornin g sickness etc good luck

Why can you not test for another week? Is that when you make urine next? *boggles*

I guess you must mean that you have tested already and it is negative.

If you are talking about Montgomery Follicles, they are considered to be a sign of pregnancy, but I guess any other hormonal changes similar to pregnancy can cause them to appear as well.

However, I don't recall them as being whitish.

The picture in my textbook "Illustrated Textbook of Gynaecology" Mackay, Beischer, Cox, Wood seems to show them as the same colour as the areola.

So ... not entirely sure.

Retest when you can.

unimelb site says:
Anatomy of the Breast 1

The breast is summounted by the NIPPLE AREOLAR COMPLEX (NAC). The areolar is composed of specialized pigmented skin with apocrine and sebaceous glands (Montgomery's follicles) arranged circumferentially.

I'm pretty sure that those aren't a specific symptom of pregnancy.

Why can't you test for a week? Most of the newer pregnancy tests are very accurate within a couple of days after pregnancy.
