I dont know for sure but can give you 2 of my opinions on this sad fact.

1. He has no woman in his life.

2. The woman he has been with for years has given up trying to get him to dress properly and just doesnt care any more.

Guys as they get older seem to lose the ability to dress themselves properly they seem to lose their wastes hence the higher pants - they pull them up as high as they can go because they have forgotten where they should stop.

not true for all men, number one. does older mean 50+ or 60+ or 70+. if what you see is true to a certain degree it is because the straightness of the neck down seem to buckle a bit...due to age and probably no physical stamina and activity --otherwise it should look straight. given that condition, i.e. a slight bending puts the pants a bit below which gives the impression it is higher -- the slippage may occur also because some older people begin to lose weight and/or they become more conscientious about weight issues...or they don't...all end up in the waist line. Bear with them.

lol. I never could figure that out. Because they lose weight? They even resort to suspenders when they could have bought a smaller waist size.
Anyhow I'm in my mid-40's and I've found I like lower cut jeans better, so I guess I'm going the wrong way. Wouldn't be the first time...

LOL I've always wondered that too! Maybe b/c they're afraid their pants are going to fall down, now that they're older and their waistline has become all flabby and not firm enough to support the pants?

They no longer have a butt for their pants to hug too. Now in the older years they use their belly.

Because as they get older, they usually get less concerned about their appearance. 'looking trendy' becomes a secondary preoccupation. they have other prioritites and know that there are things which are more important in life than lookin good.

They are shrinking a tiny bit, which makes their legs shorter and their waists slimmer. Probably they don't want to bother anyone by asking them to have their clothes altered.

as men get older stomach become more to out ( big belly) then to keep save pant not to fall they have to take it up and up. second thing= with age height shortens somewhat; lenght of pants remain same. they take it up to compensate.
