Is there any point in it? I believe it is too commercialised and card companies charge you a fortune!! I think that you shouldnt buy your loved one a present because you feel obliged to, you should spoil them when you want to.

male_lonely_shy - my boyfriend agrees with me so we dont exchange presents on that day. We do spoil each other most days though, by showing affection and love which is the best present to get.

Nobody said you had to buy a gift but if your really love someone you show them how special they are. Valentine's day is a romantic day for me. Sometimes we take our loved loves for granted but this way it reminds you to stop and smell the roses.

As far as buying a card, you can make one. I would rather have one home made any day of the week. They have all kinds of stuff in the arts & cratfs departments now.

I don't think Valentines should just be about showing your intimate partners that you love them, but about your friends and family, too. I'd rather give my best friend a valentines day card than my crush - they've been there for me through far more, and they'll be there when whoever i'm dating at that point undoubtedly leaves me or breaks my heart. As for it being over commercialised - I agree, a hand-made card is *so* much better than a store-bought one!

the true meaning of valentine is when a roman soldier ordered to kill christians sees the light of god and embrace christianity. He was prosecuted by his very own father and was sent to be deheaded...b4 his head was sliced,he made sure his family and his father were kept safe from harm and to suffer the same fate as him...he was called St. Valentine...this day is to celebrate the loving and caring in a family...but the comercial world has changed it to something we like to do(buying roses, spending cash which in turn for the lucky lady or boy,etc)...hope it has shed some info for u. I believe in treating my guy great 365 days a year, not just when tradition and corporations tell me to. Thats the way it should be.

It is the strangest holiday of the lot! St. Valentine had nothing to do with amor, and yet we have people spending small fortunes on each other for no reason whatsoever, or, worse, yelling at someone because they didn't purchase something.

Spontaneous spoiling would be so much better!

You have all year to spoil your loved one, this is a special day that makes us remember how much they mean to us. A lot of people do not receive hardly anything all year but they do this day. If you really do not like it that much, next time someone gives you something on it tell them, "No thanks I do not celebrate this day."

Yeah, V Day is a Halmark greeting card day designed to make you spend on silly cards and stuff. My boyfriend spoils me every day, without me asking, but then goes nuts on Valentine's day, Sweetest day, etc...but every other day is better because I know he is just being himself and not doing it because someone at Halmark decided to make it a holiday.

I buy my partner an artificial single red rose every year.
Doesn't cost much but lets her know how much I love her.
She's got quite a collection now and they do last forever.
