It was 29 MP's that were returned in 1906. There were already 22 Trade Union MP's who were attached to the Liberals in place. In a country that likes parties i'm shocked. Just asking

They are! There was a Parliamenary Labour Party centenary photograph done in the Commons earlier this year and their spring conference in Blackpool this was dedicated to 100 years of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

They have designed a centenary logo with the words 'Equality - Social Justice - Prosperity for All' and have branded all sorts of bits and bobs with the logo. I don't, however, think they are making a big public fuss over the 100 year history. Many speeches have used the centenary in speeches to Labour Party members to draw attention to the early ideals of the party.

I thought James Kier Hardy was elected before this. In 1892 as an Independent Labour Party member and again in 1900 as Labour Party MP for Merthyr Tydfil. A true working class hero.

Good question...here in the US, there would be crazy parades...
A century is a big anniversary...not many make it that far..
While it might be slightly bad manners to celebrate while at war...you can't fall into the trap of not living life on the home front, no matter what the state of the world. A simple celebration would definitely be in order.

Whilst so called'old labour' was not perfect let us not forget they did a great deal for the ordinary working class people of this country. Many of their political leaders were men of honour and integrity, unlike this sleazy bunch. They should celebrate, perhaps Tony could make a donation like he does for his 'freebies' from Berlosconi and Cliff Richard!

I wouldn't think that new labour would want to be associated in any way with it's left of centre roots and trade union origins. Hard to spin it into something positive maybe?

Ask Blair, maybe they cut his allowance so he couldn't afford a party.
