We use it for plenty of things...and it doesn't stop at food either ;-)

I would be very careful about using any other hot beverage with this table. If it is clearly marked as a coffee table then personally I wouldn't push my luck.
My friend got stung by putting an atlas in a "magazine" rack once and he's never been left to forget it.
Unfortunately, now that more and more people cannot afford to buy thier first home, solicitors are finding new ways to fill up thier time. Monitoring improper usage of household items is now high on their agendas.
If I was you, I'd be tempted to get the 'argos' out and look for a proper hot chocolate unit, a tea drawer and a bovril bookcase.

When I occasionally find the surface of the low table that resides in front of my sofa, I wonder when the last time I served coffee was? Answer is never. And I am now trying to remember if I have ever been in a coffee house where low tables were used. I can't remember. But if you can find the surface of your coffee table, I give you complete permission to serve any hot drink, as long as it sits in a saucer. And you should always serve little cookies or biscuits. You can serve cold drinks as well, but you will want to supply coasters and napkins.

If you have a coffee table, you should really be having ladies over for coffee mornings - I bet if you use it properly, you probably have tupperware parties too!
Have you got a separate afternoon tea table for your bone china tea set with the hand painted perriwinkles ;) ?

Good grief woman! Are you mad?? Everyone knows a coffee table is only for coffee! If you really want to push the boat out you can put a magazine on your coffee table as well. Just the one magazine mind ... and remember it's just for effect, not for reading.

No, if you use a coffee table for tea or chocolate, it collapses in a heap. It's part of the design.

Absolutely ONLY for coffee. You would be committing a cardinal sin if you used it for anything else. And if you DARE put your feet on the coffee table, that'll be the last straw.
