I have a Preying Mantis in my home.....I think preying mantis' are cute.....
I am trying to catch him to put him back out side...

In the U.S., the insect gets its name "mantis" from the Greek word for "prophet" or "soothsayer" due to the appearance of its front legs that gives the impression it is praying.

However, in Japan, the insect is called "kamakiri" which means "cutting sickle" or "cutting scythe" due to the appearance of its front legs that has rows of jagged bristles used to seize its prey.

So, I guess the insects called "praying mantis" in the U.S. may bring good luck to you, but not in Japan...

well i don't kill spiders either as the other person said ,,,,,,,But spiders are not the same creature ,,,,,,,Yes it is suppose to be lucky,,, i had 1 for years never saw him,.her much every time i did it was bigger,, i was happy to let it stay untill it left when i did find it i would hold him her awhile (very freindly)then release it back into my home ,i have since moved so don't know where it is now
