No, there are other major inventions that were done before that period! What you're talking about is technology, but things like knives and such essential tools existed long before that. the ancient egyptian civilisation already had impressive drainage systems and knew how to use mathematics to construct pyramids.
It's on the basis of mathematics and language and all the other inventions that were done very long ago that technological adavnces sprang up, it wouldn't have happened otherwise.

they never stopped invention. In the middle ages the Muslims made important discoveries in all science branches which then the wistern scientists based their inventions on them. Ibn Sina was known as father of medicine and he was earlier than the 18th century..Other scientists in other nations like China and Persia also made important inventions but you being western you only focus on western discoveries and inventions and know nothing else about other civilizations. You don't think that the European advance started from the zero point to all what you see now..this is unbelievable. In fact every civilization based its advance on the discoveries and technologies of the former civilizations...here:the Romans took from the Greek, The Byzantians took from the Romans, The Persians took from the Babylons, Both the Romans and the Persians took from the Egyptians, The Muslims took the aggregation of all those guys and built the basics of modern science. The Europeans took from the Muslims in the end and owed everything to themselves. Science is aggergative so every invention is based on a former one and so every civilization is taking its strength from a former one.

In a few words: Man never stopped invention since creation of Adam father of humans.
