be represented by the loudest and most extreme voices in their culture? Is it the fault of the media? Why must calm voices of reason be ignored, while a shout of anger is heard worldwide? Why is the most ignorant belief heralded as a representation of a population simply because it is stated loudly and emphaticly? Will we all be blindly led?

I think your avatar speaks volumes!

People are tribal and yes, we follow loud voices over meek ones. That seems to be our fate.

It's because people who scream the loudest are the ones who get heard. Usually who tend to scream the loudest are angry. People who are angry usually aren't thinking rationally.

People who are calm, collected, and reserved are slow to anger. So therefore, they rarely say much. That, in turn, is why they never get heard.

It's been said that for one complaint there are 20 compliments. However, those compliments don't get heard because people are passive and don't say anything.

People who are angry are proactive and will go out of their way to complain because their passions have been stirred.

This is a Sociological Problem that plagues many cultures and why there is so much Social Dysfunction seen in this day and age.

Yes but the truth is sovereign.

Just as you have realized that whomever has the loudest rhetoric seems to sway public opinion the most, so have millions of other people all over the world. Remember that God is the biggest broadcaster of all. No man made propaganda can compete with the broadcasting power of god. So there is justice. You can't fool all of the people all of the time. Eventually, somebody sensible, like yourself, will figure out what the truth is and they will speak it and clever propaganda can never compete with this. Never.

I didn't know there were any "calm" voices, but I do not think the media should not give so much publicity every time Bin Laden comes out with his little speeches. If you are talking about religion, then the masses do speak up, but I do not see anything wrong with speaking up, if that is what you believe. What i do not believe is strapping bombs to your God given body and blowing yourself up and hurting others and thinking you are going to get a good reward in Heaven or wherever they go. If it is self defense, but to just blow yourself up, is stupid, and not in God's plan.

Reason doesn't make for good news coverage. I think people want something to believe in, a way out of their situation, so they listen to people who give them that hope. Hate spreads like wildfire, reason takes work.
