one of my neighbours has taken to playing loud music at 5am on saturday mornings. i knocked on the door and shouted through the letter box to please turn it down, but they didn't answer. i just can't see why they would start playing music at this time in the morning. what can i do? i really felt like putting a brick through the window

contact your local council for the noise abatement officer. If it is a council property the person making the noise will be told to turn it down or else. Instead of getting annoyed and losing your temper, try speaking to the neighbour when the music is not being played later on in the day and asking them to please consider people who will be asleep at this time in the morning. If it is a privately rented property, complain to the landlord.

I've found that It's best to mention it calmly to them in the day time. Saying something politely like that was some party you had last night or can you try to remember that I am still in the other flat or whatever. If that doesn't work or they are really unapproachable you could try getting advice on the new abso laws. Apparently you are meant to take notes of all times, dates and what has happened to disturb you.
Whatever you do don't start a neighbour war. I know what it's like when you've had no sleep everything just thumps in your head and hits you a million times worse.
As for why, well they will just be thoughtless and not actually have thought about the effect it might have on other people, or how loud it might be to them. They will just either be up late or getting up early and want to hear their music, that or be drunk.

That's awful 5am talk about considerations. Approach them first during the day time. They probably don't realise how loud their music is. Nothing wrong with them playing music at 5am if that's their lifestyle but if its too loud and your neighbours can hear then they need to know. Goodluck.

When you see them during the day maybe you could politely ask them that at 5 a.m you need to sleep because you've got a day full of work and you should get your rest. tell them that it doesn't disturb you during the evening, but at 5 a.m it a little bit too early.
If they don't understand and continue to do that...they are not showing respect to you and i see no other solution than contacting your community council. this should of course be your last resort, but they aren't giving you much choice if you've tried everything.
Those people really need to understand that they live in society and should revise their etiquette. they can't only think about themselves. They have such a selfish attitude, that sort of situation always exasperates me. If they want to play music at such a random hour of the day, they should have got themselves soundproof walls.

If it is just one morning a week perhaps you should get some ear plugs and enjoy your Saturday morning lie in. This will also prevent all out war with your neighbour

I had a flatmate that did that during exam time at Uni. Playing trance at 4am when I had to get up at 7. Get them when they're weakest - on a hangover from the party they've just had. Blast out your own music. Oh yes. Don't get the council involved- they're your neighbour!

Put a note through their letter box asking them to turn the noise down or play classical music, which does not sound like noise, it sounds like music.

Well since this neighbor will not answer the door, or won't or can't listen to your request to turn it down then your only other option (legal) is to call the cops and let them handle it. You also might want to try to catch this neighbor when he/she is leaving or coming home one day and speak with them. And let them know that if you continue to be bothered at this hour then you will call the police.

my guess is that they have just come in from a club and want to continue that vibe at home with friends they have brought back. Are you mental going there at 5 am when they are likely to be drunk and not hear you anyway? I suggest that you pop round to your neighbours in the daytime in the week and express your concerns if this is happening regularly. Good Luck....

Simply to annoy the neighbours. Ignorant bar stewards like them need killing - loudly and publicly, with their own speaker systems.
