Steve N.- In response I believe that in a republic that majority rule should be the path we follow. The ACLU appears to take the rights of the individual and put them above the rights or welfare of the Majority. Also they seem to attack mostly those of Christian beliefs. Christians cannot pray in school but Muslims are allowed to? Sueing a town because they have a cross at a war memorial?

Eric- Your exactly right on how I split my vote last election 5 votes Rep, 4 votes Dem, 1 vote Ind. I believe the two party system is a major problem in this country. Too many straight ticket voters

You sound a lot like me. I concur with you on just about all of your points. It may be an oxymoron, but I consider myself a moderate libertarian and tend to vote Republican about 60% of the time and Democratic about 40% of the time. To me, you would fit that pattern too. We dislike intrusive government, but are moderate (non-idealogical) enough to be realists and accept that there are needs that are in the national interest for the government to have SOME involvement (education, health care)
We (moderates) are the largest segment (about 40%) of the population that both major parties are competing for.

you are with me, Independent. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are not up to the job. They cannot seem to get anything done because of politics and personal beliefs but many of these beliefs are not in favor of Americans. We can fly to the moon but we cannot stop illegal immigration. Why? The government allows the oil companies to fleece us and this is ruining the economy. People don't have money to buy clothes, electronics, etc, because they spend so much on gas.
However, who is there to vote for if you are an independent? We know it will be either a Republican or Democrat and all we can do is hope that the guy (or gal..heavens) will do what is right for the country.

Your probably an Independent, fringing on being a Democrat. Worry not, it's not a bad thing. I used to be a Democrat until they sit on their hands and have done nothing to change the rotten world we are forced to live in. Now I'm an Independent also. I will vote for the person, not the party. Its really a shame what role politics plays in our every day life. Government should stick to running our Nation and quit trying to run our lives.

Independent.

Abortion is a moral and legal issue, because it is the government's place to put into effect laws that protect the lives of the innocent. Failing to do so would be a dereliction of duty. This should be a Republican position.

It is not the government's place, however, to provide any spending on education or health care - that would tend to make you a Democrat.

First, I think you would be called a moderate Democrat. Second (without yelling at me and cussing me out, please), can you please tell me why you think that the ACLU is a socialist party when the two line you wrote before that statement are the basic tenants of the ACLU and socialism, by its' nature, suppresses free speech?
I'm a member of the ACLU.

You're a Moderate fence straddler like me, who think the liberals and conservatives are both idiots. You go one way or the other depending on the issue.

You're pretty darn close to Libertarian. You're on the upper side on a moderate. Excellent position, as far as I'm concerned.
