I will rephrase the question,

"Is it true that whatever is written in your fate, comes your way?"

I think we as humans are bound by our KARMA (deeds/acts) and still we are free to do PURUSHARTHA (enterprise) in order to avoid suffering, or to accumulate more KARMA.

You did something bad, you accumulated bad KARMA. So, you will be thrown in a bad situation. But when you are in this bad situation, it is not necessary that you will suffer. You may use your PURUSHARTHA (enterprise) to get out of it.

On the contrary you have done something good, you accumulated good KARMA. You will be put into a good situation. You may enjoy the situation. But if you are not a PURUSHARTHI (enterprising man), you may let the opportunities go futile.

Some people get a lot of opportunities to study, to become rich, to do good in life. That is due to their good karma. But they are not able to encash the opportunities because they lazy. They are not enterprising. My parents may be doctors, they may provide me good education, but if I don't study, I may not become a doctor in my life.

Some people get a lot of difficulties in life. This is due to bad karma. but they fight against all odds, and achieve a lot in life. This is because they are enterprising, and they can fight the karma. Though I may not become a good doctor despite opportunities, but if I decide to study fine arts, I may become a good painter.

Karma is all about opportunities. Purushartha is all about what you do with those opportunities or situation. They together make our fate.
