I'd do all of them but I'd do them in this order:
a) Tell her about the Specials because it will save time if she decides to go with that without having to look at the menu
b) Hand her a menu
d) Leave and then come back so that she'll have time to decide
c) Have conversation with her to decide on what she might like to have if she's unsure
It's always good to know what is a favorite at the restaurant because that's probably what people like.
If the customer can't decide, you can offer those choices. Certain restaurants specialize in certain dishes and you want the customer to eat what's best so that they'll keep coming back for more.

As a server trainer i can definitely say that the answer is "C".
You need to remember that your guests are PEOPLE before they are anything else. Talk to them as if you would a member of your family.
Don't be scared of them, don't get so caught up in menu knowledge and the steps-of-service that you start to sound like a robot suggesting three appetizers and up selling.
A good practice is to recall what it is like to BE a guest at a restaurant. When you are ordering, are you sitting there waiting for the server to make a mistake, judging their every move? NO. You are wanting a friendly person who is confident, accommodating, and maybe has a few suggestions about the menu.
It isn't rocket science. Don't make it more than what it is.

A lot of folks 'can't decide' without a game of 'do you care'. Of course tell about menu specials, of course b, of course 'talk' & of course don't give the bum's rush.
So the answer is e, all of the above.
& then after the reasonable amount of time, let her know we are closing & take her business down the hall.

b,a, then come back later, then c. I wouldn't say there is plenty of time to decide, just ask would you like some more time to decide, smile and leave them for a while. Then if they still haven't decided, stand there with your notebook in hand, tap you foot and perch like a vulture!

All of the above. If she still can't decide and during the course of the conversation you discover her likes and dislikes you may like to recommend something that you particular like. If she enjoys it you may well get a good tip!!!!
