Indians are divided into two different races-the Dravidians n the Aryans. Dravidians were originally the people inhabiting the indian subcontinent, esp the Deccan region (breakaway region of Africa off the original Pangea).

The Aryan came from the North of the Palmir Knot, they were the caucasians and settled in most of the nothern India. The ones who moved down south came to constitute the Iyyers n the Iyyengers.

Then there are also the Mongoloids in north eastern parts who are very much Indians. We are a very diverse community.
Then dont forget, throughout the history India was invaded by Persians, Romans, Afghans n several others who intermixed with the original population. So no definite ethinicity for Indians all together but u can trace the roots of individual sects.
