That is a more complicated question than can be answered here accurately. Keep the saw sharp to start with, wear a hard hat with eye protection ( the store you buy the saw at should have these). Ask at the store for pointers on safe operation. That means of course you can not buy it from Walmart Lowes or any big box as they will not have any reliable expetise on site. Pay the extra and buy one at a full service store. There are also chain saw pants which slow down the saw if it gets against your leg. ANd be careful, move slowly and deliberately and go to your locally owned dealer top buy your saw and rely on their expertise.

I'm not a lumberjack, but thats ok......its been a long time since I used one and I would prefer it be half size since it's easier to handle...is there something you need cut down to size?

I work as a woodland cutter. Please be careful. Is it one you have hired? It is important that the chain is SHARP. Get the store to sharpen it before you take it home.
Or why not get a prefessional to do the job. My rates are reasonable ;)

although it's not a skill you need to use a lot in a big city... ;-)
