I was at a party with my mother in law and she starts acting silly and dancing. When I came into the room, she calls out to me,"Come dance with me!",noone else was dancing and I dont dance in front of people so I laughed and said, "no,I dont cant dance"She goes,"YOU ,cant dance?"and makes this face like I'm full of it...I said,"Why would you think I can dance?" and she's like"gimme a break!".Everyone knew what she was implying ,there were even a couple people who covered their faces embarassed, not wanting to look at what was going on.....this was obviously a racist moment. I lkept it light, laughed her off and left the room. What should I have said back to her comments?................................By the way, this was not a Mel Gibson;she was completely sober and aware of her words and expressions.

you were polite and you did the right thing if she made a fuss then she just embarresed her self you shouldnt feel bad or ne thing you did the right thing if you dont want to dance and were polite enough not to embarrassed her by just plan out saying no and saying that i cant dance then she should of respected that and left it alone. you were fine. about the comments thing you said them right and ask the right question bc then that puts her in the spot. but i think she should of stop at the point where you said no i cant dance she should of said that is ok.
well i hope this helps you.

U did the right thing by walkin away. Argueing with ur mother in law is not always good but infront of people just makes the situation a lot worse. Try talkin to ur husband or to her about this and ask her what she meant Dont do it around other people but do it at home or something. Whatever she meant seems racist and u need to tell her that. Good luck xx

I think you should have a talk with her.Ask her if she has a problem with you? And if she does, tell her I'm married to your son not the whole family. Accept me or don't talk to me.

Well it doesn't matter now what should you have said? You already told it and there is no turning back. So forget about it.
