Depending on your place in society it would cause difficulty as it is not accepted as normal. People might think something is wrong with you. Without the experience you remain ignorant and can't really relate to a large aspect of culture.
If you live a life in a position that is known to abstain from sex..ie buddhist monk, priest, nun or live in solitude it can be done. Weather or not it is important? How would we ever know? According to some its better not to, according to others having it is important. Unless we had a way to see, or someone all knowing told us we would never know. Best we have is studies on sexuality and sociality. I can't quote any as I don't have any, but you can do some research.
