Hi,

A blood test will show a positive pregnancy within around 5 days after conception - this is because it is a quantitive test and leaves no room for errors - however they are expensive so are not offered often.

A urine test will show up from 7 days afer conception - however it is always best to wait at least 14 days to avoid disappointment.

For those of you who wrongly believe urine tests do not show false positives - I would like to clarify that they can indeed show a false positive - try looking at

It depends on the accuracy of the urine test which is measured by how much of the pregnancy hormone HCG it can detect. The most accurate can actually detect 10mcg, and most commercial tests more like 50mcg. The amount of HCG in your body doubles roughly each day so a more sensitive test means you can test a few days earlier.
Blood tests are more accurate but a positive from any test is a definite positive pretty much so many doctors don't bother with the blood tests.

Now a days BOTH are as accurate, the least they can detect is 20units. However you have to make sure that the HPT you buy does detect 20 units. I bought the HPT's on this website www.early-pregnancy-tests.com for .69 cents a test and every single one of them was accurate, i tested positive 5 days before my missed period. At 5 weeks of pregnancy i went to the doctor and they gave me the option of a blood or urine test, doctor said that they are exacly the same.

The soonest for a urine test is 10 days after ovulation. The soonest for a blood test is about 7 days after ovulation. A blood test is more accurate however, if your urine test comes up positive you are 100% pregnant. There are no false positives with urine tests although there are false negatives.

The blood is the quickest way to find out. MOST of the time they will NOT do them till your 2 weeks preg. I KNOW. Although a home test you can find out 2 weeks after as well. If those come back positive then they are ALWAYS RIGHT! Depends on how high your hcg level is when you take that test. BEST WISHES!
