You need hydration. You can start from within. Drink plenty of fluids. Invest in a good cuticle treatment and oil. Apply it at night and rub it in good. This promotes circulation to the nail bed and also hydrates the nail. Find a nail strengthener without Formaldehyde or Tolulene. This is very important because these chemicals dry out the nails. China Glaze, Zoya or Poshe nail products are an excellent choice. Apply the nail strengthener every day for 1 week and remove and start over again for another week. You should see results, be patient

Well , if you are in water alot and stuff that will soften nails alot, and certain chemicals. While i was working at a shutter manufacturer (as a paint sprayer) i had to clean the gun alot and we used paint thinner for that, and also to thin the paint out with. I noticed that while i was working there that my nails got longer and alot thicker. Something about paint thinner that does it. I thought that it was just me for the longest time, til a freind of mines son said that he has cut his nails alot, and he said it was because he paints at a truck factory and the paint thinner does it. I was amazed that someone else experienced the same. LOL i know your thinking Paint thinner??? Well it works awesome. Another thing that you could do is start taking vitamins. Like womens one a day.

Take multivitamins (which are good for many things besides nails BTW) and use Sally Hansen "Hard As Nails" clear polish, by itself or as a base coat.
These things have helped my nails become stronger and less likely to break.

Stop using nail polish, It really messes up your nails. I had the same problem but I stopped painting them, and now my nails are thick enough to go through just about everything without bending.

Drink orange juice with gelatin in it. Start taking a daily multi-vitamin and get plenty of vitamin C. Foods like oatmeal will help too.
