I Disagree.
Racism is a sub-part of Prejudice. To pre-judge is to make or hold a derogatory opinion before all the facts are presented (to believe your race superior, all others must be inferior in your mind). Prejudice can be based on Race, Religion, Education, Financial/Social standing, Hair color, etc,.

The difference is that prejudice is has a has a broader defintion of judging someone or something as this or that before you get to know it better, like right off the bat, and encompasses it in all it's forms not just on race, but also ethnicity, disability, age, income level, and whatever else differs between people. Racism on the other hand more specifically refers the existence of both prejudice and some a superiority complex of someone or some group based specifically on race. Both however can either be blatantly obvious or very subtle and stealthy.

Some black people are very racist. Especially in the southern states.
Racism is against a race of people, no matter what color.
Prejudice is a personal opinion about others, due to their income, appearance, educational level, habits, etc.
Both are a good waste of emotion!
I don't see any race being held back...education is free and available to all in this country...whether you decide to get one, and then use it, either uplifts you or keeps you oppressed !!

Racism is making distinction between one race of people and another and hating one over another.
Prejudice comes from the prefix "pre" and the verb "judge".
"Pre-judging" has nothing to do with race by it's self. Prejudice means to judge before all facts and evidence is presented.
I can be a racist because of a distain for Asian people. But I cannot be a racist if I did not like a book or a movie.
I can have prejudice about a book because I never read the whole thing. I can be prejudice about a movie without viewing it all. I have pre-judged.
If I have read the book and have seen the movie in entirety, then I cannot be prejudice. If I still dislike them, my opinion is based on fact. I have not "pre-judged".
Racism has nothing to do with power or ownership. Racism is distain for an ethnic group. Racism is hate. Racism is not a new concept invented in the United States specifically for black people. Racism has plagued this planet for thousands of years. Racism is not an excuse to blame others. Racism is not an excuse to fail.
Classifying all white people and saying they alone can be racist because of money or ownership is foolish because there are many poor white people who own nothing. Your argument does not hold water. It sounds like it is the product of a racist mind.
Poor Hispanics or poor blacks can hate whites and they are racist. Money and ownership have nothing to do with it.
Before someone starts labeling me as white and racist, you should know that I am not white. I am yellow.
Any person who hates another ethnic group is racist. Any person who judges without learning all facts is prejudice.
As an Asian, I experience a certain amount of discrimination from whites, blacks, and even other Asians (it's an Asian thing).
It is very common. But you don't hear Asian people in this country constantly whining about it. We don't use it as an excuse to fail and collect welfare. We carry on and work hard to improve, grow, and prosper. We continue despite being victims of racism too. All races experience racism. That includes Whites, Hispanics, Blacks, Native Americans, Asians, and Samoans.
Why is it that only one of those races has kept complaining about it for almost 300 years? I think everyone is tired of hearing it now.
I am paricularly prejudice against stupid people who refuse to learn, to grow, and to improve themselves. I am prejudice against those who blame others for their misfortune and laziness.
I have distain for those who wallow in the past and refuse to improve themselves through hard and honest work.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Me and a friend were just having a conversation about this a few hours ago, actually. I agree with you.
I find it hard for black people to be outrageously racist because they don't have the power to do it. Or they don't want to take the power to do so. Not that I'm saying we need more racist people in the world.

racism is discrimination on basis of race or colour, prejudice is pre judging someone on appearance or reputation (e.g. you can be prejudicial against people with beards)
