Hey.

I just signed up for the Instrumental 1 music class at my highschool.

on Monday we need to have 2 songs memorized for our audition.

any recomentations?

nothing to easy, nothing with slaps or anything.

I was thinking about the intro to Journy To The End of East Bay by Rancid and possibly Crazy Train just for kicks.

any recommendations?

Money by Pink Floyd is a song you can play solo on the bass that sounds really good solo on a bass. Not very difficult to play but enough changes to keep it interesting. As a bass player it's a must learn song.

Rock and roll by Led Zep is another one of those classic bass lines. Not very difficult but sounds good by yourself.

Moby Dick by Led Zep. This one is more challenging. It's short because half the song is a drum solo. When I practiced it alone I just gave a short pause as a nod to the drum solo then went back to the main tune.

Orion by Metalica. The intro is heavy but the rest of the song is fluid and very melodic. Again a tune that sounds great with just the bass playing.

NIB by Black Sabbath then by Primus. I think Geezer did a MUCH better bass solo at the intro of the origional NIB. I think that you can hear what Claypool is doing better in the rest of the song in the Primus cover of NIB. So I'd listen to both and combine what you like best of the two for your particuler cover of NIB. This is also one of those must learn bass lines. If you play bass and can't play NIB people will look at you strange. The bass solo at the beginning can technically be skipped and or improvised. Few people would notice if you changed it.

Voodoo by Godsmack - Entrancing bass line that's easy enough to play but one of those signature bass lines that people recognize imediately just from the bass line.

Blue Oyster Cult - Godzilla this song is just plain fun to play. Bass or guitar. It is a song that sounds good even with just the bass. Has enough complexity to be interesting to play.

Rock on with your determination of a bassist: Les Claypool can slap a sturdy G-string... (play on words, i be attentive to) Guitarist. Eric Clapton, Carloes Santana, would desire to've mentioned first, Jemi Hendrix...
