Certainly not coz the average age of a psychology student on my campus is about 35!. there is a good mixture of 18 year olds and 40 plus year olds studying there.

Unfortunately the drop out rate for psychology is alarmingly high coz at times it is a very dull, detailed and complicated course to study so ask yourself, am i obsess about psychology? and what aspect of psychology do i really like?
if you wish to know the different roles a psychologist can play and specialise in go to :http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos056.htm

As for your financial issues, you can opt for part time studying,
(you could study the very minimal load like taking one subject per semester or whatever the faculty permits) and keep your full time job to pay it off. But do check the timetabling for that unit. (does it clash with your working hours? is it possible to do the unit externally? is it possible to negotiate with the faculty of an alternate timetabling?)

good luck :)

you are never too old to further your education, I am 36 years old and just started the LPN program, there are people in my class much older than I am. I am also a single moyher of a four years old bouy with no help from his dad, my goal is to be at least an RN maybe higher. I quit work so I would be able to pass, because it is so hard. Take student loans, get grants do whatever you have to it is worth it. That is what I am doing.

Apply on-line for FAFSA

Go to the University and visit the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office, set up an appointment. There are many Uni. that have scholarships for adult learner and returning students.

Set up an appointment with a counselor...have them review your prior education and tell you what you need for the degree.

Based on that make your decision as to how much you will study versus work. How long will this take you? Ask questions.

Too late. To be a psychologist you need to get your bachelors which is 4 years and your Ph.D is 6 years. If you choose to practice psychology with an M.A., you'll make significantly less than a restaurant owner. Higher education is also very expensive (10k year undergrad and 20k year graduate), so if you have bills to pay, I suggest you re-think your "change."

Nope, I had a friend that gave up being a police officer and went back to nursing school at 54 years old. If you want it, go for it. As for how to pay for it ... scholarships, grants, and loans ... just like every other college student. :)

I believe anyone that has the mindset on accomplishing their goals, can achieve them. As long as the person does not have any physical or mental disabilities hindering him or her, then I believe anything is possible no matter the age.
