because for all the pretense about being "advanced", this culture has a lot of believers in mumbo-jumbo; the idea is , if you renumber the 13th floor , it will go away. Kind of on a par with a 2yr old's thinking that if you close your eyes, the monster doesn't exist anymore.

in hotels you'll notice room 13 113 213 and so on arent their because of the bad luck superstitions thats the same with the 13th floor

Yup, it's an unlucky number and the hotel authorities will rename it to 12a and 12b respectively... Hotels in Chinese populated nations also have the 4th floor skipped as the number 4 means 'die' in their language... Go figure...

cos 13 is unlucky if you're superstitious. there's not usually a room 13 on any floor either
