I like to f(u)ck with em by asking a bunch of personal questions to them, lol. I ask what their social security number is, how often do they have sex...etc. Any off the wall questions I can think of.

Getting on the "do not call" list helped reduce the number of such calls quite a lot.
Telling them nonsense, as you suggest, is not only entertaining but can help get telemarketers out of their calling scripts and off the phone. Evidently the person who wrote the article at the URL below is also fond of this method.

First of all, I registered my number with the "do not call" list, which reduced the number of calls dramatically. Those that do come thru - they are allowed by companies you have a business relationship with, non-profits, politicians, etc. - I don't take the call if it is obviously a soliciter according to the caller ID. If I do answer I quickly interrupt, tell them I know they are just doing their job, but that I am not interested. I say good-bye and hang up.

When they ask for Mr or Mrs so and so, tell them to hang on.. set the phone down and just walk away or carry on with what you were doing for a good 10 minutes. I've done that and when I come back, they're still there!!
Burst into tears and sobs and tell them whoever they asked for just died like, yesterday.
Ask THEM to buy something. like this "Yes this is Mr. Jones.. wait, before you continue. I am selling quality term life insurance.. would you like to hear the policy's? No? Are you sure? How well do you know your husband/wife? Still not sure? Come on, I've got a deadline."
Ask them to borrow money. Tell them you're gonna use it to buy whatever they're selling.
Ask them for their home phone number.
Or... just hang up or tell them to put you on the do not call list.
But where's the fun in that?

Either tell them you aren't interested and hang up or put your phone number on the do not call phone registry list. If they call you after you are put on the list, you go back to the call registry website and report them. If your report is followed up on, the company may have to pay you up to $10,000!

Most of the time I just hang up (caller ID rox) but if I'm feeling frisky I make farm animal noises or pretend I can't speak English.

I tell them im on the national do not call list. That usually stops them because if they keep calling i believe you can actually press charges.

Hang up as soon as I know it is one of them. If you say anything to them you open yourself up for some sort of conversation, so I just hang up. I feel sorry for people who have to make a living doing that, tho, don't you? They must go home after work soooooo depressed!!!!
