Absolutely! There is almost no other experience that is as valuable as time in a dfifferent culture. I lived in Mexico for a year and a half in elementary school, and I've lived in Japan for 20 years now. So many intelligent, creative people live in cultures other than MacSociety... Go find out for yourself. Keep an open mind and ALWAYS be polite (remember, you are a guest). You will never regret it.
