What do your instincts tell you??? Sounds like you have a schedule worked out that is working quite well for all of you. Good for you!
I have brought up 4 children of my own, and as you can see, common sense is motherhoods best friend. If that child is sucking down milk like there's no tomorrow, then obviously the milk isn't keeping him satisfied for very long and he needs something more substantial in his digestive track. Be careful though with what progression you offer the remaining foods. I believe the theory is to wait on solids as to give them a chance to build up immunities to different foods and not allergies.
I remember brining my first child home and nursing him. I had no clue how long it should take, and I was up every hour, for two hours feeding him. I was soooooooooo exhausted. I went to the doctor and told him I was loosing my mind. By the 4th and last child (whom was born 11 pounds, by the way) I nursed him for two weeks and he made it clear he wanted a BigMac. So, I didn't even call the doctor, we just ran out and got baby cereal, mixed it in with formula and fed it to him from a bottle with an enlarged hole. He was happy as a clam.
Like I said, sometimes you just gotta use your motherly instincts and do what's right. YOU KNOW! You did the right thing and you're a good mom.........or you wouldn't have asked the question
I read some of the answers others left to your question and I'm really suprised, not in a good way. How can you call this woman ignorant? You proobably don't even have any kids of your own or any prior experience. And the funniest parts of most of the replies left to your question, really get on you about shaming you for not waiting the extra 2 months to put her on solid foods. Well's here is THE BIG SUPRISE FOR ALL OF YOU......THE THEORY OF NOT FEEDING BABIES NOTHING BUT MILK UNTIL THE AGE OF 6 MONTHS IS RELATIVELY NEW, I'm talking 20years. That means that out of 100% of those whom critisized you probably 98% were not fed as babies in this fashion by their mothers, and they have turned out just fine!
Medical views change all thet time. Coffee isn't good for you, now it is, I remember when BREAST FEEDING WAS A NO-NO, and all of those babies survived. There isn't one answer to these questions.

It's okay to feed her solids just not too much. I wouldn't feed a 4 month old solids more than once or twice a day. You can start feeding her more when she is 6 months. Babies need their formula or breast milk. It has all the nutrients they need which solids can't provide. So until she is older and can eat cheese, meat, and eggs, etc., then I would stick to just once or twice a day feedings. You don't want to malnourish your child.
Also, jars of food are fine. Like fruits and vegetables. Rice cereal only constipates them; it's unnecessary iron. My Dr. told me to completely skip the cereal.
One more thing... I started my twins on fruits and veggies at 3 1/2 months and my Dr. said that was fine. So don't worry. You are a good mother!

Here's the deal --- each kid is different --- my oldest, now 23, was a lousy nurser, and bad eater.....she lived ..... my 2nd, now 21, nursed for 2 years and started solid foods at 4 months, ...now my 20 yr old, he was hungry and could woof a jar down at 4 weeks old and at 2 1/2 months, with a hand held baby food grinder, was eating Thanksgiving dinner......each one is different....Your baby is fine and keep up the check ups.

They don't sugeest solids until 6 mths. This being because they don't need the sugar this early. It really is'nt good for them.Cereal is ok for a 4 month old but should'nt be on baby food this early. No it does'nt mean your a bad mother,it just means you may need advice from time to time.Every mother does!!

you are her mother and you know best always remember that. If she is taking solids just fine than you should not worry about it. It seems as though you are worried about the formula or breat feeding. DONT be keep giving her both

She should not have started solids until closer to 6 mos.
The AAP and most other reputable organizations recommend 6 mos.
Starting earlier increases her chances of allergies, diabetes and obesity.

I don't usually like to leave negative responses, sorry but you really need to read about this. Unfortunetly you started solids at 3 months. Any book or blog, or whatever will tell you not to do that until 4 months at least. Your Dr should have told you not to do that. You should be only giving her one feeding of solids a day at this stage. Please don't take offense. You asked so I have to tell you that you should at least slow it down. Read about it. Read all you can. There is no harm in asking, but please read about childhood developement. Again, I am sorry to leave you a negative response, it is not my goal to upset you or anyone else.

I think you should ask her doctor about this and see what they think 4 months and 3 for sure is a lil to early I think your supposed to start rice or cereal in the formula at that age not solids so ask doctor and see what they tell you dont wait ask as soon as possible.

Sounds good to me. I bet she's a chubba-bubba, too. :0)
Just be careful you don't add too many new foods at once. If she is allergic to any of them, you want to be sure which one it is. Don't worry, if she doesn't want to eat it, she won't. Just remember that the majority of her nutrition still comes from formula. Baby food or cereal doesn't have everything a baby needs. Be sure not to skimp on that. Other than that, no worries.
