And how come someone who has chosen to have a hysterectomy (when other options are available and cheaper) have their operation BEFORE someone else has a necessary Gallbladder removal operation? At the same hospital?

I been getting on average 2 serious attacks per week for the past 15 months.

I was diagnosed in Feb and had an ultrasound in June. I've been referred to a specialist but have yet to meet him (the NHS waiting time target has well passed!) I just need to know how best to cope. : )

pain medication, and hotwater bottles. Best way is to avoid a gallbladder attack. Stay away from fatty foods before your surgery.

RE: the hysterectomy going before the gallbladder.
The doctor (surgeon) calls the hospital to book OR time depending on his schedule and what OR suites are available at that hospital.
Maybe your doctor was busy on days the OR suites were available etc...
Your doctor tells them whether the surgery needs to be done stat..an emergency, ASAP..within a day or so, or an elective surgery, which can be done whenever.

Ps...If you have been waiting since Febuary I would find another Doctor. Go to ER your next attack.

My Wife had this for 18 months before it was correctly diagnosed.
First get the operation sorted not sure how you would do this but it can't be good waiting this long, other option is going private if you can afford it - it's what my wife did because she was basically bed ridden with a 6 month waiting list beforethey could operate.
In the mean time drink lots of water, eat boiled fish, chicken and veg (watch it with some veg as this can lead to an attack) but under no circumstances should you be eating fatty or spicy foods or any fizzy pop, this'll hurt like hell.
Best of luck I really feel for you after seeing my wife go through it but when you get the operation it is a simpleprocedure and youll feel better almost immediatly -all the best

This not a do-it-yourself situation. Gall bladder pain is one of the most severe pains known and requires strong medication usually in the form of an injection. If an attack goes on for longer than 30 minutes you should seek emergency medical help.
Sometimes, but rarely, Voltarol in the form of a suppository which you can administer yourself, will ease an attack.
The specialist who performs hysterectomies is different to that who performs gall bladder surgery ( i.e. a gynaecologist as opposed to a general or gastro-intestinal surgeon) and is usually less busy with shorter waiting lists.

Don't know about the Hysterectomy thing, but its hell to go through. I had my Gallbladder out in 2000. The pain from the surgery was nothing compared to the attacks. I was lucky, my second attack I was admitted (I was there the night before with my first big one) and they took it out the next day.

Watch your diet. Grease , fatty foods are a no no to you,. Corn and some grains and veges can hurt you.Drink lots of water, diet, enough rest, go to Doctor and have test he orders for you. you may have a stone in your intestines too and they need to check that and your liver out before you have surgery. Now days it is simple to have that surgery. in and out same day and three small spots and you are just sore for a few days. About the hysterectomy that is a rough one. Be patient for there is a reason for everything.

the only way to ease the pain is your gallbladder has to be removed,I had gallsones and the only option is removal of the gallbladder. The doctors use to just remove the stones but found they always came back in the paticence so you gotta get them out.If they pain is real bad tell your doctor and they will usually give you some pain meds. and for your other question i really could not say,i guess sometimes doctors just think that was more important or maybe because it was a mor costing surgery and wanted they money? who knows????????

Have some info a lady who had gallstones gave me . She swore it worked for her. It will take me too long to type it in, so will scan it and send it to your email address if you send it to me.
Hope it works.
