Crush their aid hungry dictatorships, and set up a gov't that does something for their countrymen. Until the world stops giving aid to all these poor nations they will never wake up, and make things better for themselves, they will just continue standing at the bakery with their hand out.

There is a dichotomy on my part , if we had world peace would this stop extreme poverty . Perhaps one solution is to allow only one child per family
More people involved in growing their own produce. Poverty is often caused by corruption in governments. More for the coffers.
Perhaps we could ask ,are most world leaders more concerned about their own popularity than the welfare of the people.
More job creation is needed , giving young children motivation for the future. I'm no Robin Hood, but he certainly had some fine ideas.

Get rid of people like Robert 'the twonk' Mugabe and the other dictatorial powerseekers, send in the SAS and top them as an example! That way you don't need to send in a whole army and kill thousands of innocent civilians instead!
If you live in a known hazard area like a flood plain or drought area, move away from it. If people won't help themselves then why should we do it for them!
If people want to live in the middle ages for the sake of tradition or belief? Fine, but don't expect us to help you when the lifestyle starts to kill you.
If people made the effort for themselves then there wouldn't be half the problems. E.g if you have to walk 5 miles to get fresh water then save youself a trip! Move closer to the water! Just because the small piece of land you live on is your ancestoral land sometimes it is in your own interest to move. These things happen, live with it. It is the same thing year after year in the same places and more money gets ploughed in every year yet the problem is never solved. There must be stand pipes all over Africa by now.
If you need help with local criminals or gangs of armed militia then fine, we should help you.
Once word gets out that anyone murdering and raping innocent people will be shot on sight or hanged they will soon stop or end up dead.
We need to stop being so political and be pro-active.
Just because there arn't any resouces in a particular place does not mean they should be excluded by the western world. There must be something they can do to contribute to the global community as a whole.
The main exception to this would obviously be unexpected natural disaster like a Tsunami or an earthquake where it was not expected or had not previously occurred.

As an individual we can buy products that dont contribute to keeping others poor or dont buy products that exploit other nations. If people cared about it they could make it an issue when voting, just like the environment!
People care about there own back doors steps to much to do enought for others, and lets face it others poverty is anothers richness. Theres poverty in our own countries that people also turn a blind eye to. Middle england and middle america is a big part of the problem, now others our taking our lead as all world powers do.
Only a few of us care enought to do anything about this, and we will keep trying but its a mountainous battle with all the selfish people in this world!!!!

Thats a good question. In reality there is no need for any country to suffer from poverty there is enough money to go round if it were dealt with properly. I think the rich countries shoulkd donate so much to the places that need it. Encourage the people of those places to learn new skills and live happier more fulfilled lives. But thats a dream which will probably never happen. With the corrupt leaders we have who only want to further thier own needs we have no chance of them doing anything unless it is helping themselves

There are limited world resources and helping the poor merely aids further population growth. Aid should be tied to programmes of birth control so the problem contracts rather than continually expands. The same is true for the United Kingdom. Years of socialist policies have created an under class that is unable to support itself and relies on benefit (tax from working people) to subsidise its existence. These people consume scarce resources and contribute nothing. Benefit linked to sterilisation would be a useful step in conserving England's countryside and water.

Poverty isn't a problem, once people are able to get food and water. There are countries with quite low 'Per Capita' value are able to have great live, better than in Paris or London, despite occasional problems.
Due 'improvement desire' of healthy countries, happened ecological crisis (pesticides in india '60 - SubSaharian Africa - Actual China). Hot bathtub are not necessary and last Volvo model either.
Of course there still critical problems, but these situations people are not able to change it, once are linked to Multinaionals activity, Economical interests from G8 and Corrupt Politicians.
Recent increase of CO2 levels will bring huge disaster to "poor" countries and G8 are just talking about (and those countries are responsable for more than 80% of CO2 emissions) - China is just a puppet producing industrialized material to G8 (Reduce costs, increase profit and contain prices).
Interesting facts are:
Due economic protection rules, EUA avoid maximum to buy Steel from Brazil (It would increase values there..)
Same happen to Agriculture relations between Africa and Europe.

get rid of the corrupt governments, mainly. Build wells with clean water, and make areas of land ready to farm, with seed to plant. Make fair trade the standard everywhere. Cut taxes. Put more money from abroad into education and health, and eventually what happened in the rest of the world years ago will happen there. People will farm land, and make money. THe more money they make the more they can employ and pay people. THe more people are employed, them more they can buy goods made in their country, giving those workers and factory owners more money to live with. Then, increase taxes, cut outside aid, and the country will be able to support itself.
But first, get rid of the corrupt governments. Plus, there will always be someone in poverty, even in the richest country.

For this to happen we need to get rid of the extreme greed of some people who govern the poverty stricken countries and the fat cats of the west trying to get rich on other people's misery.

If every wealthy person gave a percentage of their money instead of spending thousands on bags shoes and clothoes which don't warrant the amount priced, the poor die even though £5 would be a months wage while the rich and so called celebrities spend that on a coffee without blinking!!!

The first thing is that governments should lift the burden of regulation and taxes on business, in poor countries, most workers are actually businesses.
Second, trade barriers should be lifted.
There should be more democracy, clearer ownership laws and better legal systems. More access to good loans.
