OK, I know that the moon is in a constant orbit, and doesn't actually get any closer to Earth. And I also know that, during moonrise and moonset, moisture in the air creates the illusion of the moon appearing larger than normal. But I just stepped outside and its huge!! Right over the top of me, how is this possible?

September 07,2006 meet day (14) of lunar month ,middle of the month Full Moon , the path of moon around earth is not a circle (as you know) but as an ellipse ,so it is now at the smaller distance from the earth ,I think this is the reason to look huge that time

It's because we are too used to look at the moon from a distance which look small, that known as illusion. Another reason is the seasons, during summer the sun is high up during day time, so during night time the moon must be low.

Another reason is the earth is rounded shape, the moon orbits around and have a horizon where they look big. The place you are in are where the moon horizon facing it directly.

It's a rare good chance to see a big beautiful moon in night time with your lover.

Because the moon is a small object orbiting the earth every full moon whenever the eath is not in the path sunlight falls on the side of the moon which does not and cannot tilt on its axis as it has none huge craters can be seen using a telescope .
simple reason the moon isd nearest at full moon that is why it looks huge

The moon looks larger sometimes if it is near something that you can compare it to such as the horizon or a tree or something. When its alone in the wide open sky, it appears smaller.

It's a huge, bright, harvest moon here tonight, too - no drugs involved.

Well, it is rather large you know. It's not like it's the size of a grapefruit or something.
