I just saw a show on tv and it said we have millions of shipping containers coming in with no inspection. Is this safe and shouldn't we stop it and cancel the trade agreements and just start making stuff here again? Seems safer to me and would create jobs too.

Heck most of the foreign companies have factories here now, and we can build more plus what about central America, we have the capability so no the economy won't collapse, it will boom with plenty of business going around because of all the construction and better paying factory jobs rather than these low paying service jobs, plus if you know anything about manufacturing you know it creates 16 jobs in support of each manufacturing job, besides do you want everything from China. Not me their commies and we are just building up their military when we buy their stuff its all government owned there and don't say it isn't because it is.This solves many problems and stimulates the economy and adds balance to the economic structure which is what is missing since all the manufacturing moved out.It wouldn't happen over night, it should be phased in, anyways why buy foreign products they hate us so piss on them.

Containers should be inspected from the points of origin and disembarkation. It protects the country from illegal drugs, immigration and customs violations.

It would be nice if we could all live off the bounty of our family farms and trade with our neighbors for everything we couldn't produce ourselves but that isn't the reality.
I do agree that America no longer has the capacity for production and has nothing to export to other countries except scrap metal.
There is only one thing America has to sell to the rest of the world and that is democracy and military equipment. None of that benefits the average person on the street, just the government and the privateers.

No, nothing comes into the country. No sony, no kodak, nothing. While we are at it, we might as well stop all exports as well because no one is going to trade with us for nothing. No Americans can live out of the US and take their household goods there and back. No oil either, but that shouldn't be a problem seeing as the number of cars will suddenly drop due to a lack of imports. The price of everything will go way up because we pay our workers more. But that's OK because everyone will have a high-quality job on those Ford assembly lines trying to produce enought cars for 300 million people.

That's absolutely brilliant. If we stop the movement of shipping containers our economy (ergo the world's) will grind to a halt. Inflation will skyrocket like never before, you will enter an economic collapse worse than the Great Depression, and you will have inadvertently solved the immigration problem!

No. We should cut off all incoming trade with overseas companies and countries. Anyone who wants to buy something should only be allowed to buy products made locally, and shipped over land.

your suggestion is unworkable. cant go back in time. in about the year 1900, 50% of all factories that worked in USA produced shoes. Now there are no shoe factories in USA. though the containers are let in uninspected, there are non-invasive methods to check teh contents. better methods are required to be invented. in addition, trade volumes now are so high it is impossible to produce all the items in USA. also no workers would be available for - what are considered - dirty jobs or difficult jobs.

Nice in theory, impossible in reality. We now live in a global economy, get used to it. There is no going back.
