I admit it I get Stamps and medicade but no cash my state don't give cash, I work full time I pay bills , I was a housewife and stay at home mom before my ex walked out for a younger woman...

I make min wage yes I have the internet at home , the computer is my mom's and she pays for it so my child can have access to her father because he only emails her, and for school work he pays nothing and lives of a very very rich new wife but I still let him see her when he wants

I get one step ahead and the state takes me 3 steps back, so seriously how am I cheating the system, I don't do drugs I don't drink , I don't smoke , every free moment I have if for my child and her welfare, so do people in general think everyone who gets assistance is a mooch??

I know how you feel, love. I used to get food stamps too, and I tell you what, I was very grateful for them. These people who complain, have never been down there with us. They sit atop their financially secure throne and complain because they can't see the details, the hidden societal problems that make us dependent. Now, I admit, I know a lot of people getting them and not needing them, just because they were lazy or were able to manipulate the system, but the high and mighty are blind when they say the welfare program should be scrapped. You bet your *** that if their income bracket were able to recieve foodstamps, they'd be all over them so they can clentch tightly to their cash. You know what ticks me off? When I go into a goodwill store or a small grocer or thrift department store, the main customers are people of upper income classes. To see a woman cherry pick the store of all the good clothes and items and then go out and load them into her hummer or lexus while us lower class are left to sift through the leftovers left in the store, because she didn't want to tap into her secure financial cache'. This angers me and makes me wonder, wheres the honor? Don't these people think "This store and these great deals weren't meant for me, I can go get new stuff and regularly priced foods." Theres no soul left in the American people. Its been purchased at a discount.

I don't think EVERYONE is a mooch, as you put it. and from your description you are doing everything you should be. The problem comes from a few (or more) bad examples that taint everything. If people see ONE person who is lazy and just getting food stamps, the natural (although incorrect) assumption is that EVERYONE is like that. My boyfriend works for the cable company and has seen people with plasma tvs and top notch cable programming, but their kids don't have what they need. I have no problem with people receiving assistance if they are doing their part - having a job, using the money for what it's intended, etc. The other thing that tends to "irk" people is when they see a single mother (not you) with a few children, already in the system, receiving assistance, and then they get pregnant again. It seems that there are people out there who know the more kids they have the more money they can get. They are the ones that ruin the reputation for all.
I'm sorry that people have treated you with disrespect. People make assumptions based on their experiences, and if the people they had known in the past abused the system, they may then tend to believe that everyone else does too.
I do wish you the best on getting back on your feet. And get him to pay child support!!
Hope this helped- at least a little.

Twisted, from what you say, I don't think anyone would begrudge you having food stamps as people like you are the workers who need support and that (ideally) is why the benefit system is there. However there is a large minority of people who flaunt the social security system and rub their easy existance into other hardworking citizen's faces. It is not nice to tar everyone with the same brush, but unfortunately some people get so angry they can not see past their anger to look at the individual. All I would say is if your conscience is clear then you don't need to lose any sleep about it. Let the government deal with those who choose to abuse the system.

You're not a mooch. (Well, I don't think you are, but I don't know you.)

But it is human nature for people to be suspicious of anybody getting anything they don't or can't get. When everybody's scrambling, they distrust people they think have an advantage. (As if you have an advantage in your situation.)

And people like to think that in our country everybody makes it or breaks it by himself/herself. Nobody wants to think that there are inequities in the system. People would rather believe that the person getting something is conning the system than to believe people are trapped. If they recognize people are trapped, then they have to think about the fairness of the system.

Meanwhile, yeah, there are enough people who abuse the system that others can point the finger and say, look, the whole things a scam.

And--I'll shut up after this--sometimes when you are out there using food stamps, there may be somebody just an inch over the line for getting food stamps. Somebody just past the cut-off point. Well, there has to be a cut-off point, but explaining why you get them and she doesn't is hard to do, if she (he) has her (his) back to the wall. It wasn't your decision, but people get resentful and you are the one at hand.

But basically, I think as I said above, people don't like think somebody make be getting an unfair advantage,

Meanwhile, good luck.

Excuse my French, but it's because the greedy bastards in the White House that have us nine-trillion dollars in debt believe that our tax dollars should all go directly to 2,348 billionaires. None of the tax revenue generated by the other three-hundred million of us should ever go back to us, not a single cent of it. It should only go to the people who are starving us and endangering our national security in the first place. This is called "democracy" and "patriotism."

This is exactly what George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and James Madison had in mind when they started this Country 230 years ago. This is exactly what six million American servicemen and women have died for. And who can ever forget Jesus saying, "Feed the rich and starve the poor, and you honor my Father as well." ????

So naturally, the whole Country is against anyone who doesn't want their kids to starve to death. Why, you're taking thirty dollars a week right out of the mouths of those poor, starving billionaires. Shame, shame, shame.

I love you. It will be better after we get those thieving bastards out of Congress, the Senate, and especially the White House/Whore House. Turning the Country over to Democrats will not bring about a welfare state. This is only one of a hundred-thousand Conservative lies that are all-too commonly believed. The Democrats will not turn the Nation into a bunch of heathen gay communists who are paid Bonus dollars for each abortion, nor will it take of all your guns away and give them all to crack-addicted rappers and gangstas.

Turning over the Country to Democrats will just end the reign of terror and economic injustice, and that is all. This is not a bad thing.

No, by what you have said, you are not a mooch and you are not cheating the system. If the minimum wage was raised to a decent level, people would be able to afford to take care of their families. I would take your ex to court and make him pay for child support. You shouldn't have to pay for everything. You sound like you have your priorities straight and your child is the most important thing to you. So don't worry about what any one else thinks. Who cares what they think? You are doing what you have to do to take care of your family. It is your life, not theirs. Hang in there and good luck to you. God Bless!

Good Luck to you sweetie! The reason that a lot off people think that people who get food stamps is cheating the system are I know several people myself that should not receive them, but listen there is a lot of people out there who really need them . take you for insentience you need them! Here is the other thing you really need to have your ex- pay child support . Your little girl is his responsibility too. Plus she deserves a dad that will prove for her.You need to talk to your ex- and ask him to pay child support . If he agrees set something up if not you need to go to your local child support office and apply. For your daughters sack. Thanks!

The system is in place for a reason. If your not abusing it then you are not a mooch. Some people have needs. I don't think "everyone" who gets assistance is a mooch.

What I am going to say here is the painful but honest truth from a person who feels as you describe so don't kill the messenger.
I see and hear of people such as yourself and I wonder why we, the general, tax paying, person should have to pay for your poor life choices. You chose to marry the man/butt head. You chose to have a child and failed to plan properly for that child (which means you should have thought about how you where going to pay to raise the child should your marriage end in divorce, as most marriages do, or if the father where to die). Why should I pay for that? This is the problem with this country (US), there is no personal accountability for our actions. If we're bad, we blame our ADD or our up bringing or our social grouping. If we're stupid, we look to others and the government, as if it's up to others to fix our mistakes.
Now, this is a general over view. As to your particular situation, I'm glad to hear that the state is not paying for drugs or cigarettes and you work full time.
As for your child's welfare, you need to get training or education (I suggest training- it's faster and if you pick a good career you can make good money) in order to improve your economic situation. This will mean time away from the child but this, in the long run, will behoove the child.
I truly wish you both well and hope things get better for you.

I do not think anyone needs to be on assistance more than 6 months there are other programs to help you so you can get a better paying job,go back to school and file for child support. Welfare is not to live off of it is to survive untik you can get on your feet and that should not take years i understand your situation but you have to do better. Get rich like your ex and he will envy you forever. You have to rise above the welfare.
