I am about 38 1/2 weeks and have gestational diabetes and my baby's estimated weight from the ultra sound is 7 pounds and 10 ounce. My OB doctor really wants to induce me because of having diabetes. My due date is September 18. She wants me to get induce on September 11, but I told her maybe September 13, but she keeps trying to persuade me, so I told her September 12. But I'm not too sure if I want to get induce because I'm scared that I might end up getting a c-section, and this is my first baby. What should I do? Should I go ahead and get induce for my baby's health and the risks associate with diabetes, or should I wait until the baby is ready?

I also saw my doctor on September 7, and she told me that I'm 1 1/2 cm dialated and she said she could already feel the baby's head.

Listen to your doctor. Gestation diabetes can be very dangerous to you and your baby. If the doctor is concerned about size of the baby, waiting will only make the baby grow more and increase your chances of a csection.

The longer you wait, the more likely you'll have a C-section (especially if the baby grows too big). My sis-in-law didn't have g. diabetes, but had a large baby. She didn't let the DR induce her and she had a C-section...because the baby was 10lbs and didn't fit!

Then again, your baby isn't HUGE right now-- 8lb baby is a big baby, but a vaginally-possible delivery. (as long as the shoulders aren't too big.) Waiting one week wouldn't be too bad. Maybe you just ask your DR to set an induction date for the 18th? In the mean time, I'd have her monitor the baby's size every few days...

I definitely understand your concerns about ending up with a C-section. Ask your DR if you're dialated, effaced, and if your cervix seems "ripe"(as in soft). If you are ripe, dialated, or effaced...you'll probably be fine with the induction. Instead, I'd worry about the types of medication that could possibly slow down your labor (i.e. epidural).

If you're not comfortable with an induction, then hold it off for a few days. It's best that you go into labor RELAXED so you can focus on the task, instead of worrying about the outcome.

firstly, listen to your doctor and let her decide. I had almost the same scenario, I was 38 weeks completed, baby was almost 8 pounds and the only way we could give natural birth a shot was by inducing, if we had waited for completion of 40 weeks the baby may have been too big to deliver vaginally. So they induced me and I had good 8 hours of labor (not too bad by the way), then the baby started to get entangled in her umbilical cord (very normal) so instead of letting baby get more troubled - I had a C section. I was awake throughout the surgery, I saw it in a mirror, so I didnt miss out on the moment, either way I would have had pain relief so it didnt matter how she came out, I was there for it. My stitches healed in about 2 weeks, I breastfed normally, resumed a sex life with my husband in about 3 weeks (that is important coz by the time baby is born it has been a while). now if i wait 2 years for a second child, i can easily try for a normal delivery. so whats the harm and why the paranoia. frankly the c-section was way easier on me and my daughter. all the best, again listen to the doc, she/he knows best. PS: baby is ready when weight is optimum and lungs are fully developed, that can be as early as 36 weeks.

I also had gestational diabetes, and i was induced my baby was due on the 3rd and they induced me on the 5th. You should listen to your doctor...... although I'm not sure 1or 2 days is that big of deal.. the longer you wait the bigger your baby will get. That is the problem with gestational diabetes. If you wait longer the chances of you having a c-section is much greater. I was induced and everything was fine. I may recommend that you have an epidural. I thought i wanted to go natural but my doctor warned me that induction can cause Even more pain. I dont want to scare you just letting you know. GL everything will be fine
and congrats on your first baby

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

My sister in law was induced when my brother passed away..And I would say with the stress and worry you are having it is probably best for you to go ahead and let them induce.... The abay is at a safe weigh and you are in the 9th month... Your probably already in labor and don't know it anyway...But it is a decision YOU must make...It is a serious decision I wouldn't seek from anyone but a professional or my Husband

I'd listen to your DR, I was Gestational with both my preg's and was induced with my first. I was 6 days over due. He was 8 lbs even. With the next it was twins and Ihad c-section because one was breech. C-section wasn't that bad for me. Your dr knows best. talk to them if you have consern.

Your baby will be fine the longer wait there more risk is to you and the baby. I delivered my daughter 5 weeks early she was fine. But my friend was pregnant and she didn't want to go in for her c-section and her and the doctor made it for after the weekend in that time her perfectly healthy baby moved to much and he got his umbilical cord wrap around his he didn't make it.They couldn't find a heartbeat the day of delivery. Please listen to your doctor. Its worth it.I'm not trying to scare you but things do happen. Your the first lady that i have talked to that wants to keep them in there longer best of luck to you. And congrats...
