Yes. But it's also being reported more often in the reports are more highly publicized.

My guess is that there was probably a higher percentage of molestation when it was infinitely easier to get away with it.
In today's age of enlightened children and more parental counseling of children those dirty deeds must simply be harder to get away with.
I think we hear more about this problem from the media as more cases are reported. I believe that 50 years ago these things would have been swept under the rug out of family shame, where as today they are reported.

I was abused by my brother 50 years ago. Still hiding that secret. Many times think about sticking up for myself but in actuality, I think if it was in your family today, think about the outcome. How many of you would step forward to actively help the victim or it sure would be easier to sweep it under the rug. Pretend the same thing as 25-50 yrs ago. Sad but true.

No, I would not say they are higher. People are just not sweeping it under the rug anymore. Back in the day child molestation was a private matter and not to be mentioned, ever. Now, times have changed and many people are not sitting back and closing their eyes to such matters.

More is spoken about now as children are taught to report any abuse. Scout leaders, priests or anyone in close contact with children are watched and backgrounds checked to ensure their safety. On the other hand there is more access to children via the internet. Very hard to say.

Hmmm.
I think we hear about it more now, then we heard back then.
With the internet, child porn grew so I would say that because of the availability the molestation is more now.
With information comes a need to know more.
I think it reasonable to conclude that more happens when there is more availability.

I suspect more is being reported to the police, but I think the actual crimes being committed are probably lower due to better knowledge about the dangers.

I hope not. However, due to pornography and such that degrades women and children there most likely is. We live in a sick world.
