My BIL's wife is 32/33 weeks pregnant. She has had a lot of trouble throughout her pregnancy so far. She hasn't been able to take any type of vitamin because they seem to want to come back up. She has these spells where she would get really hot, sick, throw up, and then pass out. Her OB hasn't been able to tell her what the cause is and I seriously think she needs to be put on bed rest because she also has these spells while she is DRIVING! She has been fainting a lot out of nowhere. Her doctor told her it was lack of protein, but I don't know. I do not know what her diet consist of so I am not sure what the cause could be. I do know that she started out a bit careless about what she ate, drank, and so forth. Her hubby is quite picky about food and I know they ate a lot of fast food during her 1st and 2nd trimester. She actually got put in the hospital twice over her spells. Since her first time being put in the hospital, she claims to be doing everything she is supposed to be doing. Has any of this ever happened to you all?? If so, what was the cause?
Would it be possible for her to switch OBs this late in pregnancy because her's seems to be a bit careless on the whole thing. They do not check her urine everytime she goes for her appts =/. It really ticks me off because I know my OB would be so much better for her. He isn't the best there is, but the best in my area at least. TIA.

She is supposed to be taking iron supplements, but she claims that make her too sick.
She wants to change doctors because she doesn't feel like she is getting the care she needs

This happened to me but not as severe, the symptoms you are describing can mean a variety of things but for me it was because I am anemic. That means I am not getting as much iron as I need because the baby is taking it all from me. It would make me shaky, tired, feel like passing out, and sometimes I got the hot/cold flashes. I do agree that she is probably also lacking the amount of protein she needs. I would tell her to have her doctor check her blood to see if she is anemic and if she is get on an iron supplement and eat plenty of iron rich foods like baby spinach. Iron pills are very harsh on the stomach though and the only pill I would say to try is called SloFee. You can get it at Wal-Mart. I would also say that if her doctor hasn't already checked for this then she should get a different doctor. It's never to late to switch doctors especially when you and your babies health is at risk.

Prenatal vitamins often make you sick. Tell her to ask for the chewable ones. The physical symptoms you are describing Sounds like some form of hypoglycemia or a blood-sugar related issue. I get like that if I don't eat when I should. I haven't actually passed out from it but that's because when I get all hot and shaky I eat something immediately. Is she trying to diet maybe? That could cause it. It could be really bad for the baby too. You should never diet while you are pregnant. There is also something called gestational diabetes. Was she given the glucose test yet? Tell her to ask her doctor for it if she hasn't.

Could be low blood sugar...could be anemia...could be just pregnancy.
Everyone's body is different and reacts different to the hormonal swings of pregnancy. However it sounds to me like she's missing out on some nutrition that her body needs. Most women experience cravings...which I believe is the body's way of telling you what it needs. Her body may be reacting with these "spells" as a way to tell her what she needs.
There are liquid vitamins that can easily be disguised in fruit juice that may help her get the vitamins she needs.
Also, If you are concerned that she isn't eating right, why don't you do like the "church ladies" do and make a bunch of casseroles and such to take over for her to eat. (Say it's to help make things easier for her, just pack them in single serving freezable containers. That way the picky eating husband doesn't have to have any!)
I know that sounds like a lot of work, but may help her.
Is she happy with her doctor, if she is she probably wont want to switch. Get her alone and talk with her about what she's going through, maybe she feels like her doc is letting her down, and may want to switch. Just make sure that your doc has room for her before you offer!
Congrats on your new niece/nephew!

it isnt likely to be lack of protien as her diet would have to be really bad for that, but her iron levels could be really low ,or she could have diabetes,I would try and get her to change drs if she can and she shouldnt be driving,it sounds like sugar overload with the hot sweaty b/outs
