Usually during gameplay, my ati card's fan gets noiser and the metal at the back of the card is hot, really hot, and the usb and monitor connections next to the outake are soaking in the heat.

Use some temperature monitoring software like Rivatuner or Ati tool to find out exactly how the card is doing temperature-wise.

Or, if you don't have adequate case ventilation and airflow, you need to improve it . An intake fan at front/bottom and an exhaust fan at rear/adjacent to the processor, and if the video card still runs hot, another intake fan mounted in the side panel above the video card is a good idea.

Remove the fan, on the opposite site of the fan usually you can find a small round sticker or the round plastic. Remove it and spay (just a little bit of W-D 40) Clean the chipset and put some Thermal Compound on it ( get it in any local repair shop )
