okay, i can understand your curiosity, Even though i don't share it..
There are a lot of rip-off out there of his death, But the actual footage of his death will not be released, However.. he was filming 10 days of footage prior to his work.. Which the family may release. I would just like to make clear there was never any indication or question wether the footage of his death would be released, the family would never do that, that is why it is being destroyed, the family declined a state funeral, so there is no way in hell the actual footage of his death is going to come about..
hope this helps.
God bless steve irwin

No it hasn't been released yet and maybe it never will be....
Steve Irwin was videotaped pulling a poisonous stingray barb from his chest moments before losing consciousness forever, a witness said Tuesday.
The tape of the final moments Monday of the man known by TV audiences worldwide for his infectious enthusiasm in hosting wildlife program "The Crocodile Hunter" has been secured by Queensland state police as evidence for a coroner's inquiry.
Irwin, 44, was shooting footage for a new wildlife project he was making with daughter Bindi, 8, for airing next year in the United States when he was fatally wounded off the north Queensland coast.
Irwin's manager and producer John Stainton described the footage, which he had seen, as "shocking."
"It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here (in the chest), and he pulled it out and the next minute he's gone," Stainton told reporters in the city of Cairns where Irwin's body was taken for an autopsy.
"That was it. The cameraman had to shut down," Stainton added.
"This is just unbelievable," Nigel Marven, a well-known wildlife specialist who was a longtime friend of Irwin's, told CBS News correspondent Mark Phillips. "It's not the venom of the stingray. What happened was, because these things have got eight-inch spines, it must have lashed its tail and it was almost like he was knifed into the heart."

I know why you are asking this question. Yahoo/News had a couple of headliners that said something to the effect of, "Steve Irwin's death was caught on film." And then when you clicked the link it took you to a website that discussed that the cameras were rolling, didn't have the footage, and showed more evil media websites with the same links. As much as I read, he pulled the stinger out and remarked at it some way. The media needs to let it go, not you. You have a legitimate question, and someone will eventually sneak it on the web. This is why the family wants to burn it.

the bottom line in this argument lies with the family...if they feel it is right to see the death of steve doing what he loved doing then that would be the case....only they will decide and i hope if they do they charge an arm and a leg for the benefit of the causes steve espoused........i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

His death is such a tragedy. He has done so much for animal conservation. He truly loved life. We should celebrate and be thankful for his life, as he has done so much with the short time he had on Earth. As for his death, what a heartbreak for his family. I think it would be terrible for that tape to be released for the public to view.

I'm so tired of people using the excuse that "he wanted us to watch it" as a justification for your morbid curiosity. If he indeed did make that statement,it was probably just an off the cuff remark as most people don't see themselves actually dying in front of a video camera.I'm sure he wouldn't want it viewed if it would cause heartache for his family.Give his poor family some peace.

i don't think its been released yet but every1 is saying we are sick because we want to see it but steve irwin himself made a comment that if he died he wanted it taped and his fans to see it. so y deny him his wishes, the only reason his producer or whoever that guy was said it should be destroyed is because he seen it, so y arent u calling him sick. its a natural curiosity to want to see death, i want to see what happened, that doesn't make me sick or direspectful , just curious

Give his family time to grieve his death. I honestly don't want to see it. He died doing what he loved to do. How many of us can make such a claim?
